Ascolta.

Un battito sordo sulla soglia.

Il Messaggero è arrivato.

The Halloween Messenger — Prologue

There are nights when time does not flow: it fractures.

When the air grows thick and the October chill bites the leaves down to brittle paper, the veil between worlds thins until it becomes transparent.

It is in that exact instant that the earth stops making noise.

In the pitch-black darkness, beneath a moon as large and round as a glowing ember, a shadow of black velvet crosses the paths.

It does not tread upon the ground: it measures it.

It moves without haste, with padded footsteps and a gaze that burns like live coals. A silent keeper of what men wish to forget, but what the soul cannot bring itself to forgive.

No one knows where he comes from. No one knows what path he has traveled.

He carries with him only one thing: the exact weight of an answer, destined for those whose hearts have been worn out from fighting the deafness of the world.

Listen.

A dull knock upon the threshold.

The Messenger has arrived.
